This bamboo sketching pen has a brush attached to make it a powerful combination pen. One end is used for ink drawing and painting, the other for Sumi color or sketching. Each piece is made of a specially selected hard bamboo shaft and carefully carved by a master craftsman into a shape perfect for black-ink line drawing. The removable brush tip can be inserted into the handle for protection and storage. Designed to be used with liquid Sumi-ink.

For thousands of years, sumi ink sticks have been made by mixing soot with flue to form solid blocks. They are ground on a Suzuri stone with water to produce ink in the way of traditional Asian artisans. Sumi ink sticks are unsurpassed for producing the famous Five Colors, or shades of black, that form the basis of monochromatic Sumi painting. The subtlety of Sumi ink is evident in the variety of tones and values it produces.

- Store out of direct sunlight, avoiding heat and moisture.
- Wash, clean and dry after each use to avoid mold growth.

Specifically made for Chinese art techniques, but suitable for all ink work, painting, drawing and calligraphy. Fade-resistant and water re-soluble. Chinese inks produce slightly cooler tones than Japanese inks. Bottle contains 180 ml (approximately 6.1 oz) ink. Comes boxed.

The unique adhesive formulation of these inks allows for increased stability but they will reconstitute in water. When these inks dry on absorbent papers, they can be wet mounted (i.e. water-based adhesive is used to bond the artwork to the mounting surface without bleeding or smearing).
Because this is a pigment ink, not a dye ink, it should not be used in refillable pens. These inks are not acrylic inks nor are there any acrylic properties or ingredients in them.
