13 – Standard Baren, 4 3/4”
13 – Standard Baren, 4 3/4”
Baren is a smooth, light rubbing pad made of bamboo bark, used in traditional Japanese woodcut printing or Ukiyo-e. The strong grain of its tough surface allows the artist to apply pressure firmly and efficiently to the paper. Great for burnishing fused papers and for mono-printing. Standard baren is 4 3/4” in diameter.
Whether you are block printing, scrapbooking, or card making, this traditional bamboo bark-covered tool will make the task much easier, and give you better results! The baren enables you to uniformly transfer images onto paper and to smooth items down after applying glue. Its flat surface is perfect for applying even pressure for burnishing and is great for scrapbooking and crafting projects. Features a comfortable bamboo bark handle. The bamboo bark which is wrapped around the baren will not damage the paper while burnishing.
Dimensions: 4 3/4” x 4 ¾” x 5/8”
Weight: 1.7 oz

Works wonderfully for Bunka embroidery. Dries clear and incredibly strong yet it is entirely reversible in water.
Will not wrinkle or soak through paper or fabric. Non-toxic, acid free and washes off hands and out of clothing easily. Adheres to paper, glass, metal, plastic, wood, and fabric. Nori Paste can be mixed with PVA glue.
FAQs
How do I use Nori Paste? Nori Paste can be used full strength from the jar using a stiff brush, fingers, glue spreader, or palette knife. Nori Paste is a natural, slow drying starch paste, and is invisible when dry. Nori Paste is water-soluble, even after drying. It is ideal for bonding rice papers, tissues, fine fibrous papers, chine collé techniques, and other projects requiring a low tack, slow-drying adhesive.
How do I store Nori Paste? When opening the jar for the first time, remove the protective film, and discard it. Keep lid tightly closed when not in use. Refrigeration after opening is not required.
What are the main ingredients in your Nori Paste? The main components are water and cornstarch.
Is Nori Paste gluten-free? Yes, Nori Paste is gluten-free.
Is Nori Paste wheat-free? Yes, Nori Paste is wheat-free.
Can Nori Paste be used to finish origami models in the way to fix the shape, as for example methyl cellulose is used? Nori Paste alone will not strengthen the models like methylcellulose, as it dries more flexibly. We suggest mixing Nori Paste with PVA glue or matte gel medium to strengthen the paper.
Is Nori Paste archival? Yes! Nori Paste is archival, reversible and acid-free. It will hold up well under optimal conditions; i.e. no moisture, no heat, no sun exposure.
