These popular brushes have a stiff core that is well suited to multipurpose ink and gansai painting, or when you want to have a bit of “spring” to the brush. Made with a blend of natural and synthetic hair which gives a crisp touch. Bamboo handle. Each comes with a convenient loop for hanging.
Use the tip for fine lines. Use the body of the brush for broad lines. These brushes will hold their shape as you manipulate them, giving you a multitude of brush shapes in a single brush!
Unlike watercolor, oil and most other paintbrushes, sumi brushes are composed of two separate parts. The central core, which determines the height and basic function of the brush, is made of relatively stiff hairs gathered to form a tapered point. The outer wrapping consists of softer hairs which are selected for their greater water-holding capacity and for facilitating smooth strokes. CG18 is a dense black ink with golden powder suspension. The black outlines gold on rice paper; the effect is more subtle
on sized papers. Specifically made for Chinese art techniques, but suitable for all ink work, painting, drawing and calligraphy. Fade-resistant and water re-soluble. Chinese inks produce slightly cooler tones than Japanese inks. Convenient lid design with an easy pour cap allows for more control and fewer spills. Bottle contains 180 ml (approximately 6.1 oz) ink, and comes boxed.
