Wa Fude, or literally “Japanese brushes”, were carefully selected for their high performance qualities.
Beloved in Japan for their superior performance in calligraphy, these brushes each boast unique characteristics that artists will appreciate for different styles and techniques, whether it be lettering, sumi-e or watercolor.
The spring and snap of these natural bristle brushes make them perform quite differently from our other sumi-e brushes, providing a variety of performance options to suit different artists’ needs.

Mineral Paper is a paper substrate made of calcium carbonate. It is not made of trees and does not contain any wood pulp.
Mineral Paper provides a smooth, vellum surface with a delicate eggshell texture.
Suitable for a variety of wet and dry mediums.
Excellent for alcohol inks and silverpoint (no gesso preparation needed!)
Not recommended for use with oil-based mediums.

KV2 – Vermilion Liquid Sumi Ink (2 oz)

Yasutomo vermilion ink is a rich, warm, red-orange color.
It is traditionally used in hand-lettered manuscripts, seals, and ink paintings. It is also commonly used in Asia by calligraphy instructors to correct students’ work.
This water-resistant ink is opaque and dries to a permanent matte finish.
Use directly from the bottle for dip pen calligraphy and brush painting. Mix with black ink to create a rich brown or warm black calligraphy ink.
Conforms to ASTM D-4236.
* Pro Tip * When used on washi (rice paper), expect the ink to soak in and spread into the absorbent paper. If you are using the ink for Western-style lettering on sized paper, add gum arabic. This will greatly reduce bleeding and fuzzy letters.
